Blogathon for the Louisville (KY) Public Library

As you may or may not have heard, on Tuesday, August 4th, Louisville’s (KY) Main Library was heavily damaged by flooding. Thousands of books got soaked and the building’s systems were knocked out, along with all of the computers at branches systemwide. Damage estimates are in the million dollar range due to the 4 feet of water that poured into the library! If you look at some of the pictures, you can see how devastating this is! http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20090804/NEWS01/908040355/Main+Library+hit+hard+by+flooding

People who want to donate to help pay for the damage can mail checks to: The Library Foundation, 301 York St., Louisville, KY 40203, Attn: Flood. Or they can call, 574-1709 for information.

BUT there are other ways to help!!

On Monday, August 31st there will be a BLOGATHON to raise awareness and help promote the efforts to raise money for the Louisville Public Library. Andy Woodworth, a librarian for the Burlington County Library System in New Jersey, who blogs at Agnostic Maybe, has organized a Blogathon On Behalf of the Louisville Public Library . You can read more about it on his blog post and find all of the details on the wiki he set up to oranize the blogathon: IFPL Blogathon .

What can YOU do to help!?

The theme for the blogathon is “Why Libraries Rock”. Blogs all over will be posting on this topic on that date.

CJRLC would like to participate in the blogathon and since we do have a blog we thought we would ask you to respond with your answers/comments on the theme of “Why Libraries Rock”. We will compile them into one big blog post for the posting day of Monday, August 31st.

So, c’mon, share with us why YOU KNOW “Why Libraries Rock” and we’ll post one big blog posting from CJRLC as a whole! I know we have a lot of passionate, creative people in our region, let’s show them!!!! It can be just a sentence, or a paragraph, or more!

OR, if you have a blog of your own, you may want to consider joining the blogathon (just go to the wiki, add yourself to the list and blog away, all of the directions are there).

Send your replies directly to me at amy at cjrlc dot org .

The blogathon doesn’t cost anyone anything – it is simply to raise awareness – so let’s do our part and help out in the library community! :-)

Thanks! :-)
